70 mph on Alicia Speedway and run a red light

1 p.m. Silver-haired gent in a black BMW 3 convertible, races off to hit more than 70 mph northbound on Alicia Speedway, north of Niguel Road. And ends of running through a red light at Kite Hill.

White Honda Rav 4: inoperable turn signal?

11:10 a.m. Southbound on Crown Valley Speedway, south of La Paz to Del Avion, a women in a white Honda Rav4, doing +60 mph, is lane drifting, never using her turn signal, to get around any car, cutting people, off, and ends up at the same stoplight (at every intersection) as all the rest of us who are safe, speed-abiding drivers. She changes lanes more than 20 times in two miles.

Friday evening kick-offs a weekend of screaming tailpipes

6 p.m. Once again, a Friday evening kick-off of the screaming tailpipe parade through Laguna Niguel: Crown Valley Speedway: cars race northbound from Hillhurst past Alicia toward Niguel Road (perhaps somebody sitting in their city hall offices should open their windows to hear what goes on in this city); another report from Golden Lantern Speedway, southbound at Marina Hills of noise and speed violations; and a third report from Moulton Speedway at Rancho Niguel. Laguna Niguel is one web of speedways for all the surrounding cities, compliments of funds received from the county transportation authority which makes our roads wider and faster for the neighboring cities, but noisier and less safe for the residents in Laguna Niguel. It's a really pathetic and self-serving system of gaining monies in the city coffers to the detriment of city residents.

Run a red at Highland

9 a.m. A red Honda speeding down the hill, eastbound on Highland at Alicia, runs a red light to make a left turn, northbound on Alicia Speedway.

Car jumps the curb on Crown Valley

2 p.m. A blue mini-SUV passed across the bike lane and jumped the curb, lost its muffler and tail pipe, and ended up on the sidewalk, northbound on Crown Valley Speedway, south of Niguel Road in front of Bank of America.

Drive straight through a turn-only lane

4:40 p.m. Eastbound on Greenfield at Crown Valley Speedway, a driver in a black Escalade, in the right-turn-only lane, decides she will go straight up Rolling Hills, cutting off the drivers legally going straight from the through-lane.

More noise violations along Crown Valley Speedway

4 p.m. Weekends and evenings on the speedways throughout Laguna Niguel ... (and moments ago on Crown Valley Speedway at National Park Drive) racing of some pimped-out sports cars with exhaust systems that are illegal noise violators. Has the sheriff or city ever cited anyone for noise violations? It's the law; time to enforce it before thousands of citizens who are affected by the lack of enforcement while in the quiet of their homes take action against the city. Lawyers, expect a call.

Running a red light ... happens all the time.

9:25 a.m. Northbound on Golden Lantern Speedway at the Paseo de La Colinas intersection, a man in a blue Mitsubishi Galant runs the red light. The cars turning left on a green arrow have to stop to let the guy blast down the hill.

The pavement's wet .. so let's race!

9:05 p.m. As always, weekend drag racing on Crown Valley Speedway, northbound from Del Avion to Alicia Speedway, and southbound. The roads are slippery tonight so we hope someone doesn't go out of control, jump a curb, hit oncoming traffic, slam through a wall, and end up in somebody's house. Anybody who thinks this is a such a pleasant community needs to spend time on or near the county-subsidized freeways that rule (and ruin) our city.

My Little Honda ... loud and dangerous

1:15 p.m. Eastbound on Moulton Speedway, through Rancho Niguel, a pimped-out all-white Honda -- rear wing, thin silver rims, and all the tacky plastic add-ons that try to make it look like a bad Ferrari wanna-be --- is lane drifting around the rest of the cars on the road, at excessive speeds (more than 60 mph), accelerating, braking, accelerating again, braking as he swerves through traffic. Oh, and as if he weren't a bad enough driver, runs the red light at Rancho Niguel.

It's Motorcycle Drag Racing Friday!

1 p.m. All day, it's been continual racing by motorcycles on Crown Valley Speedway. What's up? Something's going on today (or this weekend?). And the problem, which is ongoing, is even worse today. The city is in denial about this problem: excessive speeding (more than 70 mph), extreme danger to motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists; and extreme noise violations.

Jump the curb ... again

4:30 pm. A white BMW, westbound on Clubhouse Drive, speeding, of course, far beyond the 25 mph limit, hops the curb onto the sidewalk across from the tennis club. Driver revs it into reverse, backs off the sidewalk, and speeds away toward Crown Valley.

Let's pass the phone back and forth ... while we lane-drift back and forth

7:02 p.m. Two young people in a small black BMW, northbound on Alicia Speedway, north of Aliso Creek Road, are passing their cell phone back and forth between the driver and passenger, all the while the driver is lane drifting, unable to stay in his lane. Even the honking from the other drivers doesn't wake up the cell phone passers.

It's a race to Coast Highway .. two motorcycles at over 80 mph.

7 p.m. Two motorcycles southbound on Crown Valley Speedway, tear away from Hillhurst (right in front of city hall) and jockey for position at more than 80 mph, all the way down Crown Valley to Del Avion (and beyond). Not only were they a risk to themselves and other drivers, but they also violated noise ordinances.

Tailgating, lane changing, speeding ... and that gets her nowhere.

8:10 a.m. Northbound on Golden Lantern Speedway, starting at Bear Brand, a woman in a white Toyota SUV is tailgating anyone in front of her, constantly changing lanes to tailgate the next person, speeding off at over 65 mph when she finally has a bit of clearing ahead ... but you know what really happens? By the time she and I get to Oso/Pacific Park Drive, she is still next to me at the stoplight. All of her jockeying got her no further ahead than those of us who are good drivers driving the speed limit. Oh, if the poor rude drivers around here would only face reality, things would be better for everyone.
